From scrap to resource – how do we secure the metals of the future?

Metals are crucial for the green transition, but how can we recycle more and use our resources smarter? What technical solutions are needed, and what skills will the industry of the future demand?

Welcome to an inspiring live-streamed lunch seminar where representatives from industry, research, and academia come together to discuss the key role of metal recycling in the transition to a more circular society.

The seminar is led by Charlotte Andersson, professor of process metallurgy at Luleå University of Technology, who will be in conversation with Linn Andersson, Executive Vice President Strategy and CTO at Boliden, Christer Ryman, research director at Jernkontoret, and Fredrik Engström, professor of process metallurgy at Luleå University of Technology. Together, they share their perspectives on today’s and tomorrow’s challenges in recycling, including electronic waste and end-of-life vehicles. You will also get insights into the latest research on how the composition of materials, choice of processes, and handling of by-products affect the possibilities of recovering valuable metals. Additionally, the discussion will cover how product design can make products easier to recycle and which skills and knowledge will be particularly in demand in the future.

During the seminar, you’ll get concrete examples from the industry, up-to-date knowledge from research, and information about an upcoming online course for those who want to develop their skills alongside work.

Target audience

The seminar is aimed at engineers, product developers, researchers, consultants, sustainability and environmental specialists, as well as anyone interested in recycling, metallurgy, and the circular economy.
